Sound in essence is a by-product of an object being struck, swiped or blown. This is true in all musical instruments such as drums, guitars, pianos and horns. Even woodwind instruments produce a sound after air flow passes a valve or tube. Whereas if sound is a by-product of cause-and-effect, it is essentially distortion (secondary product). Distortion is considered an artifact or element that is bad for sound reproduction and the audio industry has gone through great lengths to reduce or eliminate it. Even the human voice can be categorized as distortion because it works like a horn; controlling airflow over a valve or tube.
Why do we humans like the sounds produced by instruments; because the sounds sound good. Distortion from an instrument is more than ordinary sound but they have texture, tone and frequencies that are distinguishable from regular noise. When instruments are played together a rhythm can be achieved among them which produce music. Some of the best distortion you can ever hear is a large orchestra playing in a Grand Hall accompanied by a vocalist. We form an emotional connection to music because the distortion as we know it makes sense when applied right. Even tube amplifiers and pre-amplifiers operate from producing a certain distortion that is loved by many audiophiles. I believe music is etched into our DNA and culture; without it, it's abnormal to the point of insanity. To create music is a gift, to properly record music is a talent and to reproduce music is an art. Music is all encompassing because the sound waves music produce surrounds our entire body, fills the room and promotes emotion and involvement.
SEB Audio Design has created loudspeakers that are not only made to sound good but fit lifestyles whereas you don’t have to be sitting directly in front of the loudspeakers to enjoy the music. We do offer speakers that require a sit down and listen occasion if that is what you desire but we offer different speakers for modern lifestyles too. Some folks like to walk around, do an activity in another room or work on a project while listening to music. Musical enjoyment is in the ear of the beholder and their personal preference because that is the true measurement of how good a speaker is.
Listen and enjoy that so called “distortion” because it’s so good when you; Explore Your Music!
